About This Test

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) combines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat problems in the bile ducts and pancreatic duct. It's particularly effective for removing gallstones from the bile duct.

  • Evaluates: jaundice, pancreatitis, bile duct stones, abnormal liver tests

What It Can Detect

  • Diagnoses: bile duct stones, strictures, tumors, chronic pancreatitis, bile leaks

Therapeutic Capabilities

  • Can treat: stone removal, stent placement, sphincterotomy, drainage of blocked ducts

When Is It Recommended?

ERCP is typically recommended when imaging shows bile duct stones, for unexplained jaundice, or to relieve bile duct obstruction.
