About This Test
Endoscopic Ultrasound combines endoscopy with ultrasound to obtain detailed images of the digestive tract and surrounding organs including the pancreas. It's essential for staging cancers and evaluating pancreatic abnormalities.
What It Evaluates
- Evaluates: pancreatic masses, bile duct abnormalities, submucosal tumors, chronic pancreatitis
What It Can Detect
- Diagnoses: pancreatic cancer, cysts, neuroendocrine tumors, bile duct stones, lymph node involvement
Therapeutic Capabilities
- Can perform: fine needle aspiration (FNA), celiac plexus block, cyst drainage, fiducial placement
When Is It Recommended?
EUS is recommended for staging GI cancers, evaluating pancreatic abnormalities, or when detailed imaging of the GI wall and surrounding structures is needed.
